英語絵本「The Teacher From the Black Lagoon」の読み聞かせです。
いつもハチャメチャな登場人物のBlack Lagoonシリーズ。今回は、新学年で担任教師として現れます。
学校の初日、新クラスの新しい先生はどんな先生だろうとうわさをしていると、そこに現れたのは恐ろしく厳しいと評判のグリーン先生。点呼する間に、もう数人は餌食となり姿を消してしまいました。ハチャメチャながら楽しく読める英語絵本でした。
It’s the first day of school
学校の初日です。
Iwonder who my teacher is.
私の先生は誰なのかしら。
I hear Mr. Smith has dandruff and warts.
スミスさんにはフケやいぼがあるそうです。
and Mrs Jones has a whip and a wig.
ジョーンズ夫人はむちとかつらを持っています。
But Mrs. Green is supposed to be a real monster.
しかし、グリーン夫人は本物の怪物のはずです。
Oh my. I have her!
あらら。彼女がいるわ！
Mrs green.. room 109.
ミセス・グリーン…109号室です。
What a bummer!
悔しい！
I sit at my desk.
私は自分の机に座っています。
I fold my hands.
手をあわせます。
I close my eyes.
目を閉じます。
I’m too young to die.
私は若いので死ぬには程遠いです。
Suddenly a shadow covers the door.
突然、影がドアを覆いました。
It opens…
開きます…
In slithers Mrs Green.
スルッと滑り込むグリーン夫人。
She’s really green!
彼女は本当に緑です！
She has a tail.
彼女はしっぽを持っています。
She scratches her name on the blackbird board – with her claws!
彼女はブラックバードボードに自分の名前を引っ掻きます-彼女の爪で！
Freddy Jones throws a spitball.
フレディジョーンズは唾を吐きます。
She curls her lip and breathes fire at him.
彼女は唇を丸めて彼に火を吹きます。
Freddy’s gone.
フレディがいなくなった。
There is just a little pile of ashes on his desk.
彼の机の上にはほんの少しの灰の山があります。
“Talk about bad breath.” giggles Eric Porter.
「口臭についてはなそう。」 エリックポーターが笑う。
She slithers over, unscrews his head and puts it on the globe stand.
彼女はスルスルとやって来て、彼の頭のネジを外し、地球儀の台に置いた。
I bet she gives homework the first day of school.
きっと学校の初日に宿題を出すのだろう。
“Your homework for today.” grins Mrs. Green, smoke rising from her nostrils.
「今日の宿題は 」とグリーン夫人は鼻孔から煙を上げて笑う。
“Is pages one to two hundred in your math book – all the fraction problems.”
「算数の教科書の1ページから200ページまでの分数の問題です。」
”We’ve we’ve never had fractions.” shouts Derek Bloom.
“分数をしたことがない “と デレク・ブルームが叫んだ。
“Come up here.” she beckons with her claw.
[こちらに来なさい」彼女は爪で手招きします。
Derek stands by her desk.
デレクは彼女の机のそばに立つ。
“This is a whole boy,” she smirks.
「これは男の子全部です。」と彼女は笑う。
She takes a big bite.
彼女は大きな口を開ける。
“This is a half a boy. Now you’ve had fractions.”
「これは半分の男の子です。これで分数ができましたね。」
Doris foodle cracks her gum.
ドリス・フードルがガムを割る。
Mrs. Green swallows her in one gulp!
グリーン夫人は一気に彼女を飲み込みます！
“No chewing in class.” she smiles.
「クラスでは噛みません。」 彼女は微笑みます。
Mr. Bender, the principa,l sticks his head in.
校長のベンダーさんがのぞき込んでいます。
“Keep up the good work.” he nods and closes the door.
「良い仕事を続けてください。」 彼はうなずいてドアを閉めます。
I wish I could get sent to the principal’s office.
校長室に行けたらいいのにと思います。
“Let’s call the roll.” cackles Mrs. Green.
「点呼しましょう。」 グリーン夫人はケラケラ笑った。
“Freddy Jones is absent.
「フレディ・ジョーンズは不在です。
Derek Bloom is half here.
デレクブルームはここに半分です。
Eric Porter is here and there.
エリックポーターはあちこちにいます。
Doris Foodle is digesting.”
ドリス・フードルは消化されている。」
“What about spelling?” shouts Randy Potts.
「つづりはどうですか？」 ランディポッツは叫びます。
“Spelling can be fun!” beams Mrs. Green, wiggling her fingers at him.
「つづりは楽しいかもしれません！」 グリーン夫人を凝視して、指を小刻みに動かします。
“Abracadabra Kazam!”
「アブラカダブラカザム！」
“That’s tough to spell.” says Randy.
「それは綴るのが難しいです。」 ランディは言います。
Suddenly there’s a flash of light, a puff of smoke ,and Randy’s a frog.
突然、閃光と煙が出て、ランディはカエルになりました。
Penny Webber raises her hand.
ペニーウェバーは手を上げます。
“Can I go to the nurse?” she whines.
「看護師のところろに行けますか？」 彼女は泣き言を言う。
“What’s wrong?” asked Mrs. Qreen.
“どうしましたか？” クリーン夫人は尋ねた。
“I have a huge headache.” says Penny.
「私には大きな頭痛があります。」 ペニーは言います。
Mrs. Green wiggles her fingers. There’s another flash of light,
グリーン夫人は彼女の指を小刻みに動かします。 別の閃光があります、
and Penny’s head is the size of a pin.
ペニーの頭はピンの大きさです。
”Better?” asks Mrs. Green.
「よくなった？」とグリーン夫人は尋ねます。
“Now it’s naptime. Everyone who still has one, put your head on your desk.”
「今はお昼寝です。まだお昼寝をしている人は、机の上に頭を置いてください。」
I hope I make it to recess.
休むことを願っています。
“Sweet dreams.” she cackles as I close my eyes.
“良い夢を。” 私が目を閉じると、彼女はカチカチ音をたてる。
Suddenly the bell rings.
突然ベルが鳴ります。
I wake up.
私は目を覚ます。
There’s a pretty woman writing her name on the blackboard.
黒板に自分の名前を書いているきれいな女性がいます。
She has real skin no tail.
彼女は本物の肌で尻尾がありません。
“I’m Mrs. Green, your teacher.” she smiles.
「私はあなたの先生、グリーン夫人です。」 彼女は微笑みます。
I jump out of my chair, I run up, and hug her.
私は椅子から飛び降り、駆け寄り、彼女を抱きしめます。
“Well thank you,” she says.
「ありがとうございます」と彼女は言います。
“I’m glad to be here.”
「ここに来てよかった」
Not as gladas I am!
私はグラダほどではありません！
