英語絵本「Night Monkey Day Monkey」の読み聞かせです。夜中のジャングルで冒険する昼と夜のおサルさん達のお話し。
昼ザルは夜のジャングルに住むものすべてが物珍しく、奇妙に映り怯えます。でも、ヨザルのことばに安心しながら朝を迎えます。
可愛いおさるさんの登場する読みやすい英語絵本でした。
The moon shone down on the jungle.
月がジャングルに降り注いだ。
Night monkey climbed up the tree.
ヨザルが木に登った。
She clambered and lcap to where Day Monkey slept.
彼女はよじ登り、昼ザルが眠った場所にたどり着きました。
And whispered, “You can’t catch me.”
そして、「あなたは私を捕まえることができない」とささやきました。
Day monkey woke up and chased her.
昼ザルは目を覚まし、彼女を追いかけました。
But lost his grip on the back.
しかし、背中のグリップを失いました。
He landed, cross, on a bed of moss.
苔の生えたベッドに真っ逆さまに着地した。
Complaining, “It’s much too dark.”
「暗すぎる」と文句を言う。
“Look!” said the Monkey hundreds of wise winkling and blinking and bright.
“見て！”と猿は言いました……何百もの賢者がウィンクしたり、まばたきしたり、明るい。
Night Monkey laughed and said. “Don’t be daft, They’re fireflies that flash in the night.”
ヨザルは笑って言った。「馬鹿なことを言うな、彼らは夜に点滅するホタルだ」
”Help” said a Monkey “Flying mice!
「助けて」と猿「空飛ぶネズミ！
Or maybe I’m wrong and they’re rats.”
それとも、私の勘違いでネズミかもしれませんね。
Night Monkey laughed and said, “Don’t be daft,
ヨザルは笑って言った。
Hsven’t you friend of hats?”
帽子の友達じゃないの？」
“Stop!” said Day Monkey.
「やめろ！”」昼ザルは言った。
“Listen to that! There sawing the tree into logs.”
「あれを聞いてください。木を丸太に切っています」。
Night Monkey laughed and said,
ヨザルは笑って言った、
Don’t be daft, It’s only a chorus of frogs.”
気を悪くしないでください、それはただのカエルの合唱です。」
“Hey!” said Day Monkey, “There’s a banana! how does it manage to fly?”
「昼ザルは言いました「バナナだ！どうやって空を飛ぶんだ？
Night Monkey laughed and said, “Don’t be daft, That banana’s the moon in the sky.”
ヨザルは笑って言いました、「馬鹿にするな、あのバナナは空の月だ」と。
Day Monkey yawned and rubbed his eyes.
昼ザルはあくびをして目をこすりました。
“Maybe I’m dreaming,” he said.
「たぶん私は夢を見ている」と彼は言った。
“Night-time is creepy and I’m feeling sleepy.
「夜は不気味で眠くなります。
I’m going back to bed.”
私はベッドに戻ります。」
The sun shone down the next morning.
翌朝、太陽が降り注いだ。
Day Monkey slid down the tree.
昼ザルは木を滑り降りました。
He slithered and lcapt to where Night Monkey slept And whispered, “You can’t catch me!”
彼は、ヨザルが眠った場所に滑り込み、しゃがみこみ、「あなたは私を捕まえられない！」とささやきました。
Night Monkey woke up and chased him,
ヨザルが目を覚まして追いかけた、
Screwing her eyes up right.
彼女目を右にそらします。
She came to rest in an empty nest,
彼女は空の巣で休むように、
Complaining, “It’s much too bright!”
眩しすぎる！」と文句を言いながら。
“Look!” said Night Monkey. “Moths wearing make-up!
「見て！」とヨザル。「蛾が化粧してる!
why are they in disguise?”
どうして変装しているんだろう？”
Day Monkey laughed and said, “Don’t be daft,
昼ザルは笑って言いました、「馬鹿にするな。
They’re beautiful butterflies.”
きれいな蝶々だよ」と言いました。
“Help!” said Night Monkey. “Look at those giants Swinging about in the trees.”
「助けて！」とヨザルが言った。「巨人が木の上で揺れているのを見てください」
Day Monkey laughed and said, Don’t be daft.
昼ザルは笑って言いました、「馬鹿にするな。
Those giants are chimpanzees.”
あの巨人たちはチンパンジーだよ」
“Stop!” said Night Monkey. “Screeching owls, The colour of peas and carrots!”
ヨザルが言った。「やめろ！」 「クロウの鳴き声、豆とニンジンの色」
Day Monkey laughed and said, Don’t be daft, Haven’t you heard of parrot?”
昼ザルは笑って言いました。「馬鹿なことを言うな、オウムを知らないのか？”」
“Hey!” said Night Monkey. Naughty black monkeys!
「ヘイ！」とヨザルが言った。「いたずら黒猿！
Can’t they keep out of our way?”
俺たちの邪魔をしないでくれないか？」
Day Monkey laughed and said, Don’t be daft,
昼ザルは笑って言いました、「馬鹿にするな。
Our shadows are here to stay.”
我々の影はここに留まっているのだから。」
Night Monkey yawned and rubbed her eyes.
ヨザルははあくびをして、目をこすりました。
“Maybe I’m dreaming.” she said.
「夢を見ているのかもしれない。」彼女は言った。
“Daytime is crazy and I’m feeling lazy, I’m going back to bed.”
「昼は気が狂いそうだし、体がだるいからベッドに戻るよ。」
Now Night Monkey sleeps in the daylight
今夜ヨザルは昼間に眠る
And a Monkey sleeps in the night,
そして、昼ザルは夜に眠る。
But now and again at sunrise
しかし、今も昔も日の出の時は
When it isn’t quite dark or light.
暗いのか明るいのかよくわからないとき。
They share a bunch of bananas
バナナの束を分けてもらう
Half way up tree.
木の途中まで。
Day Monkey calls it breakfast.
昼の猿は朝食と呼び
Night Monkey calls it tea.
夜の猿はお茶と呼ぶ。
