英語絵本「The Hungry Giant’s Soup」の読み聞かせです。お腹をすかせた巨人シリーズの続編です。
お腹をすかせた巨人さん、今度は人々にスープを作れ！と脅しています。
前回はget meでしたが、今回はmake me～「私に～をつくって」とか「私を～にして」といった訳です。
例）
Could you make dinner for me?
夕食を作ってくれませんか？
You will make me feel better.
あなたは僕を元気にする。
Don’t make me mad.
怒らせないで下さい。
The giant was hungry.
巨人は腹を空かせていた。
“Make me some soup, or I’ll hit you with
my bommy knocker,” he said to the people.
「私のためにスープを作ってくれ、さもなければ、ハンマーでたたくぞ。」彼は人々に言った。
The people ran for the soup pot.
人々はスープ鍋に走った。
“The pot’s too small,” they said.
「鍋は小さすぎる」と彼らは言った。
“We’ll have to make the soup in a bathtub.”
「私たちはバスタブでスープを作らなければならない」
“Hurry! hurry!” the giant yelled.
「いそげ！いそげ！」巨人はさけんだ
“Or you’ll all get my bommy knocker!”
「さもなければみんなこのハンマーの餌食だ！」
Into the tub with some tomatoes.
バスタブの中にいくつかのトマト。
Into the tub with some onions and spices.
バスタブの中に玉ねぎとスパイス。
Then the people made a fire to cook the
soup.
それから、人々は、スープを料理するために、火を起こしました。
“Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!” yelled the Giant.
「いそげ！いそげ！」巨人はさけんだ。
There was no more wood for the fire.
燃やすための木はもうありませんでした。
“The soup’s stopped cooking,”said the people.
「スープの調理がとまった」と人々は言った。
“What will we do?”
「私たちはどうする？」
“We will get some wood.”
「私たちは木材を手に入れよう」
the children said.
子供たちが言った。
“Here’s some wood.” said the children, and they put the wood on the fire.
「ここに木材がある」 子供たちは言った、彼らは火の上に木を置く。
Soon the soup was cooked.
すぐにスープが調理されました。
“That’s good soup,” said the giant.
「それは良いスープだ」と巨人は言った。
“Now I’ll be on my way,” he said.
「さぁ、私はうちに帰えろう」と彼は言った。
“Hey! Where’s my bommy knocker?”
「おい、私のハンマーはどこだ？」
