英語絵本「FROGGY GOES TO SCHOOL」の読み聞かせ、フロッギーシリーズより初めて学校へ行くお話しです。
学校の初日から遅刻しそうになり大慌てでスクールバスに乗るも..大失態をしでかしたと思ったフロッギー、でもそれは..。
英語初級でも読み進めやすい簡単な英語で書かれたやさしめの絵本でした。文章量も適度にありリスニングにちょうど良い感じです。
It was the first day of school
学校の初日でした
froggy woke up and looked out the window.
フロッギーは目覚めて窓の外を見た。
The Sun was high in the sky,
太陽は空高く
“Oh no! The bus! The bus!” he cried.
「ああ、バス！バス！」 彼は叫んだ。
“I’ll miss the bus!”
「バスに乗り遅れますよ」
He hopped out of bed and flopped outside –
flop flop flop.
彼はベッドから飛び降りて外に飛び出た-
ピョンピョンピョン
The school bus was leaving.
スクールバスは出発しました。
“wait wait!” he yelled, and took a mighty hop.
「待って！彼は叫んだ、そして力強飛び乗った。
The bus hissed to a stop and the door folded open.
止まるまで閉められていたそのバスのドアは開いた。
Froggy flopped up the steps – flop flop flop –
フロッギーはステップに飛び乗った-ピョンピョンピョン
but when he reached the top everybody laughed and pointed their fingers.
しかし、彼が登りあがると、誰もが笑って自分に指を向けました。
Froggy!
フロッギー！
Yelled his friend Max.
彼の友達のマックスが叫んだ。

“Did you forget something
「何か忘れましたか
froggy looked down
フロッギーは見降ろした
“oops!” he was in his underwear.
「おっと！」 彼は下着を着ていた。
He dashed to the back of the bus and hid behind Max’s umbrella all the way to school.
彼はバスの後ろに走り、学校までずっとマックスの傘の後ろに隠れた。
At school, he hopped behind the bushes.
学校で、彼は茂みの後ろに飛びはねた。
He tried to hide behind the flagpole.
彼は旗竿の後ろに隠れようとしました。
He rolled down the hall like a bowling ball.
彼はボーリングボールのようにホールを転が抜けた。
And in class he pretended to be a flowerpot.
そしてクラスで彼は植木鉢のふりをします。
Froggy! called his teacher
フロッギー！ 彼の先生が呼んだ。
“What?” But it wasn’t his teacher at all – it was his father!
「何？」 しかし、それはまったく彼の先生ではありませんでした – それは彼の父親でした！
froggy rubbed his eyes,
フロッギーは目をこすり、
He had been dreaming
彼は夢を見ていた
He was still in bed!
彼はまだベッドにいた！
Rise and shine froggy,” said his father
日が昇り輝いてる、フロッギー」と父親は言った
“It’s the first day of school!”
「学校の初日だよ」
This time froggy got all dressed –
今回フロッギーはすべて服を着た –
zip! zoop! zup!
ジップ！ズップ！ジップ！
zut! zut! zut! zat!
ズッ！ズッ！ズッ！（いまいましい）
Then he flopped into the kitchen –
それから彼は台所に飛び込んだ –
flop flop flop.
フロップフロップフロップ。
He tried to pour milk on his bowl of flies,
彼はハエのボウルにミルクを入れようとしました、
but the curtain flew out of his hands.
しかし、彼の手の幕が飛び出しました。
“You’re just nervous about school, froggy,”
「あなたは、ちょうど学校を心配していますねフロッギー」、
said his mother.
とママは言った。
“Everybody is the first day.” “not me!” cried froggy.
「誰でも、１日目です。」「私じゃない！」フロッギーは叫んだ。
And together they leapfrogged all the way to the bus stop – flop flop flop.
そして一緒にピョンピョン跳ねてバス停へ向かった。フロップフロップフロップ。
At school, froggy found his name on the table.
学校で、カエルはテーブルの上に彼の名前を見つけました。
He liked his name. It was the first word he knew how to read.
彼は自分の名前が好きだった。 それは彼が読む方法を知っていた最初の言葉でした。
It was the only word he knew how to read.
彼が読む方法を知っていた唯一の言葉でした。

He read it aloud, louder and louder.
彼はそれを大声で大声で読み上げました。
Froggy!

cried his teacher miss Witherspoon.
彼の先生、ウィザースプーン先生は叫んだ。
“What?” “Hush, dear it’s time to pay attention.”
「何？」 「こんにちは、気をつけてください。」
But it was hard to pay attention.
しかし注意を払うことは困難でした。
He squirmed.
彼は叫んだ。
He looked out the window at the falling leaves.
彼は窓の外の落ち葉を見た。
He felt like a leaf, falling… falling…
彼は葉のように感じて、落ちて…落ちて…
Plop! He fell out of his chair.
ポロン！ 彼は自分の椅子から落ちた。
“Oops!”
「おっと！」
“Kindly stay in your seat, dear,” said miss Witherspoon.
「親愛なる、あなたの席にとどまってください」とウィザースプーン先生は言いました。
“We’ll sit on the floor at circle time.”
「私たちは床にまるく座ります」
At circle time, miss Witherspoon said,
サークルタイムに、ウィザースプーン先生は言いました。
“Now children, today I’d like you to tell us what you did last summer.”
「今日はみなさん、去年の夏にしたことを私たちに話します」
Who wants to go first?”
最初に誰がしたいですか？」
Froggy shouted, “Me me me me me!”
フロッギーが叫んだ「わたしーーー！」
and so did Max.
そしてマックスもそうした。
Miss Witherspoon went clap-clap-clap-clap-clap –
ウィザースプーン先生が拍手した、パチパチパチ
and everybody went clap-clap-clap-clap-clap with her.
そしてみんなも拍手した。パチパチパチ
Then they grew very quiet
それから彼らは非常に静かになりました
“Now one at a time.” said Miss Witherspoon.
「さぁ一人ずつ」 ウィザースプーン先生は言った。
When froggie’s turn came, he jumped up and said,
フロギーの番が来たとき、彼は飛びあがって言った、
“Last summer, I learned how to swim!”
「去年の夏、私は泳ぎ方を学びました！」
“And he sang, “Bubble bubble, toot toot. Chicken airplane, soldier.”
「そして彼はうたった バブルの泡、歯の歯 チキン飛行機、兵士。」
Everybody jumped up and joined in –
誰もが飛びあがって参加しました –
“Bubble bubble, toot toot, chicken, airplane, soldier –
“バブル、トゥートトゥート、チキン、飛行機、兵士 –
When – un – Oh in walked the principal, Mr. Mugwort.
ああ、校長のマグウォートさんが歩いて入ってきたとき
“Bubble bubble – oops!” cried froggy,
「あわあわ、おっと！」フロッギーは叫んだ。
looking more red in the face than green Mr. Mugwort glared at him….
いつもより顔を赤くしたマグワート先生は彼をちらっと見た。
that he joined in – “bubble bubble toot
toot chicken airplane soldier” till the bell rang for recess.
彼は参加していた「”バブル、トゥートトゥート、チキン、飛行機、兵士」ベルが休みのために鳴るまで。
When froggy flopped off the bus after school, his father said,
フロッギーが放課後バスから飛び降りたとき、彼の父親は言った、
“Froggy! How was your first day of school?”
「フロッギー、学校の初日はどうでしたか？」
“Great!” said froggy.
「素晴らしいです！」 フロッギーは言った。
“I taught the principal how to swim!”
「私は主に泳ぐ方法を教えられました！」
“Hmm, that’s nice.” said his mother,
「うーん、いいね」 彼の母親は言った、
but where’s your lunch box and baseball cap?”
でもお弁当や野球帽はどこにありますか？」
“Oops! I left them at school.”
「おっと！学校に置いていった」
“Oh froggy, Will you ever learn?” said his mother.
「ああ、フロッギー、ますます学んでもらえますか？」 彼の母親は言った。
That’s why I’m going to school mom!”
だから私は学校に行くつもりです！ママ」
And together they leapfrogged.
そして一緒に飛び跳ねた。
all the way home – flop flop flop.
家に帰る – フロップフロップ。
