ハロウィンのトリックオアトリート、日本でも最近流行っていますね。
子供達というより若者の間で盛り上がっているような気もしますが、アメリカではこんな風にやっているんだよ、とハロウィンの夜をトリックオアトリートするピートたちの絵本です。
伝統的なハロウィンの夜に子供たちが仮装して近所を練り歩く雰囲気がとってもよく伝わります。
Pete the Catの絵本はいつもとっても愛嬌のあるイラストで楽しませてくれますが、今回はトリックオアトリートのドキドキ感を演出するちょっとした仕掛け絵本になっていました。
it’s Halloween.
ハロウィンです。
Pete the cat is excited to go trick-or-treating in his superhero costume.
ネコのピートはスーパーヒーローの衣装でトリックオアトリートに向かうことに興奮していました。
“I hope nothing too spooky happens.” says Pete.
「あまりにも気味の悪いことは何も起こらないと期待しています。」ピートは言います。
“Don’t worry.” says Pete’s dad. “We have our flashlight!”
「心配しないで」ピートの父は言います。「私たちは懐中電灯を持っている！」
“Let’s go trick-or-treating!” says Pete.
「トリックオアトリートに行こう！」とピート。
Pete and his dad walk outside.
ピートと彼の父は外へ歩き出した。
The wind rustles the leaves. Pete sees something moving in the tree.
風邪が葉を鳴らします。ピートは、何かが木で動いているのを見ます。
“It’s just an owl thought wasn’t through spooky.” says Pete.
「ただのフクロウだ。気味の悪いものじゃない」とピート。
They arrive at a neighbor’s house.
彼らはお隣さんの家へ到着します。
Pete rings the bell.
ピートはベルを鳴らした。
He hears a strange sound coming to the door.
彼は、変な音がドアに来ているのを聞きます。
“It’s just Callie.” Pete says. “She’s not too spooky.”
「カーリーか」とピート。「彼女は気味悪くない」
Callie joins Pete and his dad trick-or-treating.
カーリーはピートとピートの父のトリックオアトリートへ加わりました。
At the next house, there is something in the yard.
隣の家に来た時、庭の中になりかがありました。
“Phew. It’s just a scarecrow.” says Pete.
「ふぅ、ただのかかしだ」とピート。
“That’s not too spooky.”
「それは、あまり気味悪くありません。」
Pete rings the doorbell. “Trick or treat!” say Pete and Callie.
ピートはドアベルを鳴らした。「トリックオアトリート！」ピートとカーリーは言った。
“Awesome costumes!” says Pete.
「ものすごいコスチューム！」と、ピート。
“Very spooky — but not too spooky.”
「非常に気味悪い ― しかし、あまり気味悪るすぎない。」
“Thank you.” says Mrs. Gold, the crossing guard.
「ありがとう」と交通指導員のゴールド夫人は言った。
At the next house,
次の家では、
There is something glowing on the step.
ステップで輝いている何かがあります。
“Cool.” says Pete. “jack-o’-lantern.”
「かっこいい！」とピート。「ジャックオーランタン」
Callie rings the doorbell. “Trick or treat!” says Pete and Callie.
カーリーはドアベルを鳴らした。「トリックオアトリート！」ピートとカーリーは言った。
It’s Pete’s teacher!
ピートの先生だ！
“One piece of candy each!” she says.
「各々1個のキャンディ！」と、彼女は言います。
Suddenly, they hear something behind them!
突然、彼らは彼らの後ろで何かを聞いた！
“What was that?” asks Callie.
「あれは何だった？」カーリーはたずねた。
“Oh, it’s just our friend Emma.” says Pete.
「あぁ、それはちょうど友達のエマでした。」とピート。
“Not spooky but groovy!”
「気味悪くなくて、かっこいい！」
“One last house, and then we’ll go home.” says Pete’s dad.
「最後の家、そして家に帰る。」 ピートのお父さんは言う。
Pete rings the bell. Ring – dong!
ピートはベルを鳴らす。 りんりん！
“Yikes! it’s a spooky ghost!” screams Pete.
「げっ！それは、気味の悪い幽霊です！」ピートが叫んだ。
“Don’t be silly, Pete. It’s just me.” says Grandma.
「馬鹿なことはしないで、ピート。それは私です。」おばあちゃんは言います。
Callie and Pete get treats and hugs.
カーリーとピートはお菓子をもらいハグをした。
Trick-or-treating wasn’t too spooky at all.
トリックオアトリートは、まったく気味悪くありませんでした。
It was actually full of sweet surprises.
実際には甘い驚きがいっぱいでした。
