英語絵本「Little Blue Truck Leads the Way」の読み聞かせです。Leads the Wayは先導するという意味。
都会に初めてやってきた小さな青いトラック、周りは高い建物や慌ただしく走り回る車ばかり。のんびり走っているとあちらこちらから邪魔者扱いされてしまいます。ですが、そんな小さなトラックでも必要とされる時がやってきます。
Horn went “Beep!”
ホーンが「ビーッ！」と鳴り響く
Engine purred .
エンジンが音を立てる。
Friendlist sounds you ever heard.
あなたがいままで聞いた中で最も親しみのある音。
Little Blue Truck rolled into the city.
小さな青いトラックは都市に入りました。
“Beep! Beep! Beep!
「ビーッ！ ビーッ！
Isn’t it pretty?”
可愛いでしょ？」
Towering buildings scraped the sky.
そびえ立つ建物は空を削り取った。
“Beep!” said Blue.
「ビープ！」 ブルーは言った。
“The city is high!”
「街は高い！」
Zoom! roared trucks down the Avenue.
ズーム！ 通りを下る轟音トラック。
“They city is fast!” said Little Blue.
「彼らの街は速い！」 リトルブルーは言った。
“Shove, on shorty!””
「ちょっと、出なさい」
yelled a double-decker bus with big red letters:
大きく赤い文字が書かれた２階建てのバスが叫んだ
rides-a-us.
（私たちに乗る）
A grocery truck gave his horn a blast.
食料品のトラックが警笛を吹き鳴らした。
“Move it, bud – I’m first, You’re last!”
「それを動かしなさい、キミ – 私が最初です、あなたは最後です！」
Wooeee..
ウーゥン。。
Went a siren.
サイレンがなりました。
“Coming through!
「やってくる！
Busy police car,
慌ただしいパトカーが、
things to do!”
やること！」
Swish! Swash! Swoosh!
シュッ！ シュッ！ シュー！
went a big street sweeper,
大きな道路掃除がやってきた、
hollering, “Hey! better move, little beeper!”
大声で叫ぶ、「おい！動いた方が良いぞ、ちいさなビー君。」
“Make way!”
「進んでください！」
yelled a limousine (the longest car you’ve ever seen).リムジンがさけびました（あなたがこれまでに見た最も長い車）
“I’ve got his honor the mayor inside.
「私は名誉ある市長を中に乗せています。
I’m important!
私は重要です！
move aside!”
脇に動いてください！」
Cars and trucks were all in a tangle.
車とトラックはすべて巻き込まれていた。
Everyone started to shout and wrangle.
誰もが叫んで、争い始めました。
Up roared a taxi.
タクシーはうなりました。
Screech went the brakes.
金切りでブレーキをふむ。
“Stop!” yelled Blue.
「とまれ！」ブルーがさけんだ。
“For goodness’ sakes!
「お願いだから！
You might be fast and I might be slow, but one at a time is the way to go.
あなたは速いかもしれませんし、私は遅いかもしれませんが、一度にひとつずつ進んでいく道です。」
“Me first!” said the limo, all puffed with pride.
「私が最初だ！」 ふかしたプライドでリムジンは言った。
Then he gave a cough and his engine died.
それから彼は咳をし、そして彼のエンジンは死んだ。
He was stuck right there with the mayor inside.
彼は市長を中にしたままそこで立ち往生していた。
「ビープ！”」ブルーは言った。
“Would you like a ride?”
「乗車しますか？」
Everybody watching gave a shout when the door swung open and the mayor stepped out.
ドアを開けて市長が外に出ると、見ている人全員が叫んだ。
His Honor climbed right up on Blue and gave a speech (the way mayor’s do).
彼は敬意をもってブルーに上り、スピーチをした（市長のやり方）。
“My friends,” he said,
「親愛なる皆さん」彼は言った、
“what wonderful luck – this good advice from a little blue truck!
「なんて素晴らしい運 – 小さな青いトラックからのこの良いアドバイス！
One at a time is what we’ll do,
1つは、我々が何をするかということです、
so single file, folks –
一列縦隊になって みなさん
follow Blue!”

Trucks and buses got in line with vans and taxis, and it all went fine.
トラックやバスはバンやタクシーに沿うようになった、そしてそれはすべてうまくいった。
A taxi let a van go past.
タクシーがバンを通過させた。
The double-decker bus said, “I’ll go last.”
二階建てバスは言った、「私は最後に行きます」。
A marching band join the big parade.
マーチングバンドが大きなパレードに加わります。
Boom! went the drums, and the trumpets played.
ブーム！ ドラムは行った そしてトランペットが鳴った。
They rolled along the avenue and everyone waved to Little Blue.

They clap their hands and yelled,
