英語絵本「Perfect Square」の読み聞かせです。
子供なら誰でも手にしたことのある正方形の折り紙。折ったり切ったりしていろいろな形にしてメージを膨らませるのが子供はみんな大好きですね。
そんな色とりどりの四角い紙が形を変えていろいろなものになっていく絵本です。切ったり穴をあけたり、ギザギザに切り取ってみたり、破ってくしゃくしゃにしてみることでも雰囲気あるイメージが膨らんできます。
低年齢向けの英語絵本ですが、ちょっとした図工的な英単語も出てきます。聞き慣れておくと良いかもしれませんね。
It was a perfect square.
完ぺきな正方形でした。
It had four matching corners and four equal sides.
四つの揃いの角と四つの等しい側面を持っています。
And it was perfectly happy.
そしてそれは申し分なく巧妙でした。
But on Monday,
しかし、月曜日に
the square was cut into pieces and poked full of holes.
正方形はバラバラに切られ、つつかれた穴でいっぱいになった。
It wasn’t perfectly square anymore.
もはや完全に正方形ではありませんでした。
So it made itself into a fountain that babbled and giggled and clapped.
そして、それ自体がペチャクチャと笑いと拍手を浴びる噴水になりました。
On Tuesday,
火曜日に、
the square was torn into scraps.
正方形は、断片に裂けていました。
So it made itself into a garden.
そして、それ自体が庭になった。
On Wednesday,
水曜日に、
the square was shredded in strips.
正方形は細く切り裂かれた。
So it made itself into a park.
そして、それ自体が公園になった。
On Thursday,
木曜日に、
the square was shattered.
正方形は粉々になった。
So it made itself into a bridge.
そして、それ自体が橋になった。
On Friday,
金曜日に、
the square was snipped into ribbons.
正方形は飾りひもに切られました。
So it made itself into a river.

the square was crumpled and ripped and wrinkled.

that had, at its center, a fountain…
