英語絵本「On our way to First Grade」の読み聞かせです。幼稚園から新一年生として小学校へすすむアメリカの子供たちの様子を描いた絵本です。
日本でもこれから進学のシーズンを迎えます。新一年生のイメージを絵本で少しでも体験しておくとわくわくが広がりそうですね。英語は簡単な文章で書かれていて、初級英語のリスニングにもちょうど良い感じの絵本でした。
Ben isn’t kindergarten.
ベンは幼稚園ではありません。
He will be in first grade soon.
彼はすぐに一年生になります。
Ben is sad.
ベンは悲しい。
He will miss his kindergarten friends.
彼は幼稚園の友達が恋しくなります。
“Today is the last day of kindergarten.” says Miss Green.
「今日は幼稚園の最終日です。」 ミス・グリーンは言います。
“No!” Ben says.
「いいや！」ベンは言います。
“What is wrong. Ben?” asks Ms Green.
「何が悪いの？ベン？」 グリーンさんが尋ねます。
“I do not want to go to first grade.”
「1年生に行きたくありません。」
Ben says.
ベンは言います。
“I will miss you.”
「あなたと離れて寂しくなります。」
“I will miss you, too.”
「私もあなたがいなくて寂しいです。」
Ms. Green smiles.
グリーンさんは微笑みます。
But you will love first grade.”
しかし、あなたは一年生が大好きになるでしょう。」
Ben is not sure.
ベンはよくわかりません。
What if first grade is hard?
1年生が難しいとしたらどうでしょうか？
Ben helps Emma put away books.
ベンはエマが本を片付けるのを手伝います。
“Will we read books in first grade?” asks Ben.
「1年生で本を読みますか？」 ベンは尋ねる。
“You will read a lot of books in first grade,” says Ms. Green.
「1年生でたくさんの本を読むでしょう」とグリーン先生は言います。
“Fun new books about sharks and pirates!”
「サメと海賊についての楽しい本！」
Ben and Jack clean the art table.
ベンとジャックはアートテーブルを掃除します。
“Will we do art in first grade?” asks Ben.
「1年生でアートをやるの？」 ベンは尋ねる。
“Yes you will do art in first grade,” says Ms. Green.
「はい、あなたは一年生でアートをします」とグリーン先生は言います。
“Fun new projects with clay and paint.”
「粘土と塗料を使った新しいプロジェクトを楽しんでください。」
“Will we eat lunch in first grade?” asks Ben.
「1年生で昼食を食べますか？」 ベンは尋ねる。
“Yes, you will eat lunch in first grade,” says Ms. Green.
「はい、一年生で昼食を食べます」とグリーン氏は言います。
“New foods and yummy old foods too.”
「新しい食べ物とおいしい古い食べ物も。」
Ben and Gavin take pictures off the window.
ベンとギャビンは窓から写真を撮ります。
“Will we play outside in first grade?” asks Ban.
「一年生は外で遊ぶの？」 ベンは尋ねた。
“Yes, you will play outside in first grade.” say Ms. Green.
「はい、あなたは一年生で外で遊ぶでしょう。」 グリーンさんは言った。
“Fun new games like soccer and kickball.”
「サッカーやキックボールのような楽しい新しいゲーム。」
Ben looks at his friends.
ベンは彼の友人を見ます。
“Will there be friends in first grade?”
「1年生には友達がいますか？」
“There will be friends in first grade.” says Ms. Green.
「1年生には友達がいるでしょう。」 グリーン氏は言います。
“New friends and old friends, too!”
「新しい友達と古い友達も！」
Last fall, Ben was worried about kindergarten.
昨秋、ベンは幼稚園が心配でした。
Now he knows kindergarten is super.
今、彼は幼稚園がすごいことを知っています。
Maybe 1st grade will be super, too.
たぶん1年生もすごいでしょう。
“Kids, we had a great year,” says Ms. Green.
「子供たち、素晴らしい年でした」とグリーン氏は言います。
“Now you are ready for first grade.
「1年生の準備ができました。
But first it is time for a kindergarten party.”
しかし、まずは幼稚園のパーティーの時間です。」
“A party?” says Ben.
「パーティー？」ベンは言います。
Ben loves parties.
ベンはパーティーが大好きです。
”Will we have a party like this in first grade?” he asks.
「一年生でこのようなパーティーを開催しますか？」と彼は尋ねます。
“Yes, you will have parties in first grade.” says Ms. Green.
「はい、あなたは一年生でパーティーを開くでしょう。」 グリーンさんは言います。
“But this is a special party.
「しかし、これは特別なパーティーです。
It only happens in kindergarten.”
それは幼稚園だけで起きます。」
Ben is curious.
ベンは好奇心が強い。
What is so special about this party?
このパーティーの何がそんなに特別なのですか？
This is your Stepping Up party,” says Ms. Green.
これはあなたのステップアップパーティーです」とグリーンさんは言います。
“You will walk across the bridge to first gread.”
「あなたは橋を渡って1年生の教室に向かいます。」
Ben walks across the Rainbow bridge.
ベンはレインボーブリッジを渡ります。
His friends cheer.
彼の友人は応援します。
Then the class sings a special song.
その後、クラスは特別な歌を歌います。
Ben is happy.
ベンは幸せです。
He learned a lot in kindergarten.
彼は幼稚園でたくさん学んだ。
And now he knows he will learn even more in first grade!
そして今、彼は一年生でさらに学ぶことを知っています！
