小学生の英語リーディングやリスニングにちょうどよい英語絵本シリーズ、リトル・クリッター「Just Shopping with Mom」の読み聞かせです。
兄妹を連れてママと一緒にスーパーへ買い物に出かけることになったリトルクリッター、まだ幼い妹に目を配りながら買い物のお手伝いを続けます。
キャンディーが欲しいと袋をgrabbed（掴んだ）妹にママは”Not today.”と言います。それでもわがままを言う妹にお母さんが一言、
Would you like to go to time-out instead?
time-outは、小休止、中断の他に、悪いことをした子どもに反省をさせるための方法、または自分の部屋に閉じこもらせたり、椅子に座らせて数分間静かにさせるしつけのことです。
We went shopping.
私たちは買い物に行った。
We went to the food store.
私たちは食品店に行った。
I got to push the cart.
私はカートを押しました。
It was heavy, but not too heavy.
それは重かった、でも重すぎることはなかった。
“I want to ride,”said my little sister.
「私は乗りたい」と妹が言った。
“Don’t you think you are too big to ride?” ask Mom.
「あなたは、乗るのにあまり大きいと思いませんか？」、おかあさんは尋ねた。
“No,” said my little sister.
「いいえ」と妹は言った。
I had to push her too. Then the cart was very heavy.

I picked some apples for Mom.

My little sister picked a red plum.

But she ate it. I think Mom was mad.

My little sister grabbed a big bag of candy.

Mom said, “Not today.” please

I turned around and my little sister was gone.

My little sister said. “I want the yellow deck.”

Mom said. “You don’t need the yellow duck.”
ママは言った「あなたは黄色いアヒルは必要ありません」
“I really need a red pail.” said my little sister.
「私は本当に赤いバケツが必要です」と妹は言いました。
“No !” said Mom
「いいえ！」とママは言った。
Mom wanted some paper towels.
ママはペーパータオルを求めていた。
My little sister pulled out the roll from the bottom of the pile.
妹は積み上げた山の底からロールを引き出した。
Everything fell down.
すべてが落ちた。
The man who owned the store didn’t look too happy.
店のオーナーはあまりにも幸せそうに見えませんでした。
Mom paid for everything.
ママはすべてを支払った。
We took the food to the car.

My little sister said, “I want ice cream.”
私の妹は「アイスクリームが欲しい」と言った。
I said. “I want ice cream too.”

Mom said, “Not now. We have another place to go.”

We walked back to the mall.
私たちはショッピングモールに戻った。
We passed by the bakery.

My little sister said. “I want cake.”

“Not today.” said Mom.

We passed by the pet store.
私たちはペットショップを通り過ぎました。
“I want a kitty,” said my little sister.
“私は子猫が欲しい”と妹は言った。
“”But you already have a kitty.” said Mom.
「しかし、あなたはすでに子猫を持っています」」と、ママは言った。
We passed by the toy store.
私たちは玩具店を通り過ぎました。
“I want a doll.” said my little sister.
「人形が欲しい」 私の妹は言った。
“No.” said Mom. “You need a new dress.”
「いいえ」ママは言った。 「あなたは新しいドレスが必要です。」
We walked into the dress store.
私たちはドレスショップに入った。
Mom picked out a dress.
ママはドレスを選んだ。
My little sister tried it on.
私の妹はそれを試着しました。
Mom said, “Doesn’t she look sweet?” I said “Yes.”
ママは言った、 “彼女はかわいく見えませんか？” 私は「はい」と言った。
Mom bought the dress.
ママはそのドレスを買った。
Then we all went to get an ice-cream cone.. finally.
そして、私たちは皆、アイスクリームコーンを手に入れました。
That was the best part.
