英語絵本リトル・クリッターのシリーズから、「Just me and my Little Sister」の読み聞かせです。
簡単な文法で書かれていてそんなに難しい表現もなく英語初級者でもわかりやすい英語絵本でした。
妹と一緒に公園へ遊びに行くことになったお兄ちゃんのリトルクリッター、妹の望むままにいろいろな遊び場をまわりますが..。
文中には以下の２つの用語が繰り返し出てきます。
wanted to ～, but.. ～したいと思ったけど、・・だった。
wanted to ～, so.. ～したいと思ったので、・・した。
My little sister wanted to go to the park.
私の妹は公園に行きたいと思っていました。
Mom was too busy, so I said, “I’ll take her.”
ママは忙しすぎて、 「私が彼女を連れて行くよ」と私は言った。
So we went to the park, just me and my little sister.
そこで私は公園に行きました。私と妹だけでした。
My little sister wanted to play basketball, but the hoop was too high.
私の妹はバスケットボールをしたいと思っていましたが、フープ（輪）が高すぎました。
She wanted to play jumprope, so I showed her how.
彼女は縄跳びをしたいと思っていたので、私は彼女に方法を見せた。
Then she wanted to play hide-and-seek, but she got lost.
それから彼女は隠れんぼで遊びたいと思っていましたが、彼女は迷ってしまいました。
My little sister climbed to the top of the jungle gym.
私の妹はジャングルジムの一番上に登った。
I had to help her get down.
私は彼女が下りるのを助けなければならなかった。
She wanted to go on the big slide, so I caught her at the bottom.
彼女は大きい滑り台に上がりたかったので、私は底で彼女を受け止めました。
I gave her a ride on the merry-go-round, but it went too fast.
私は彼女をメリーゴーランドに乗せたが、それは速すぎた。
So I let her go on the swing until she was tired.
だから私は彼女が疲れてしまうまで、彼女をぶらんこさせた。
Then she was thirsty, so I helped her drink from the fountain.
それから彼女は喉が渇いていたので、私は泉から飲むのを手伝った。
My little sister went to the sandbox.
私の妹は砂場に行きました。
She wanted to play mudpies…
彼女は泥まんじゅうで遊びたかった…
.. but it was time to go home.
..しかしそれは家に帰るときだった。
My little sister had such a good time at the park that Mum says I can take her again tomorrow.
私の妹はとっても楽しい時間を公園で過ごしました、ママが私にふたたび彼女を連れていくことができると言うくらい。
