クリスマスシーズンになるとよく見かける映画といえばホーム・アローン・シリーズ。その第２作目にあたる英語絵本「Home Alone 2 Lost in New York」の読み聞かせ動画です。
「Home Alone 2: Lost in New York」という絵本は、冒険に満ちた素晴らしい物語を紡いでいます。本作で再び主役を務めるケビン君は、クリスマスの祝日を家族と共にニューヨークで過ごす予定でしたが、航空券の取り違えというあり得ないハプニングにより、家族から離れてしまい、ひとりニューヨークの街をさまようことになります。
絵本では、その状況でさえもケビン君が見せる驚異的な適応力と冒険心を見事に描き出しています。
高級ホテルへの忍び込みや、ちょっとした悪戯心で敵対するどたばたコンビ、ハリーとマーヴに巧みないたずらを仕掛ける様子は、読者を心から楽しませてくれることでしょう。 師走のニューヨークを背景に、ケビン君の機知とユーモアあふれる活躍を通じて、クリスマスの喜びを描いたこの絵本は、どんな苦境でも前向きな心を持ち続けることの大切さを伝えます。
少し文章量の多い絵本ですが、映画でおなじみのストーリーで、難易度もあまり高くなかったので物語を英文で読みこなす第一歩としてもちょうどいい絵本です。

“Twas three nights before Christmas, and the McCallister family was getting ready for their vacation to Florida.
「クリスマスの3日前の夜、マッカリスター一家はフロリダでの休暇の準備をしていた。
Everyone except for Kevin, who didn’t want to go.
行きたくなかったケヴィンを除く全員が。
“Why do we have to go to Florida for Christmas?” Kevin asked.

“They have palm trees instead of Christmas trees there!”

“I wish I could go on my own vacation alone!” Kevin showted.

“I’d have the best time of my life!” But nobody listened.

They went to the airport the next day. It was crowded and noisy.
翌日、二人は空港に行った。そこは混雑していて騒がしかった。
Kevin needed to blow his nose, so he borrowed his dad’s bag and stopped to look for a tissue.
ケビンは鼻をかみたかったので、お父さんのカバンを借りて、ティッシュを探すのに立ち寄った。
His family rushed on ahead.
家族は先を急いだ。
“Wait up!” Kevin yelled, and ran after them.
“待てよ！” ケビンはそう叫んで、二人を追いかけました。
He thought he could see his dad’s coat in the crowd.

He finally caught up to his dad.

..and boarded the plane at the very last minute.

when the plane finally landed, Kevin looked out the window.

He saw very tall buildings and lots of snow, it didn’t look like florida at all.

When Kevin got off the plane, his family was nowhere to be seen!

At first Kevin was scared, but then he realized this was his chance to do whatever he wanted on vacation.
最初は怖いと思っていたケビンですが、これは休暇で好きなことができるチャンスだと気づきました。
He discovered that New York City was a magical place to Celebrate Christmas.
彼はニューヨークがクリスマスを祝う魔法のような場所であることを発見しました。
He rode around in a yellow cab.

He saw the Statue of Liberty.

Kevin took a limousine to the biggest toy store in New York.

He met the store’s owner, Mr duncan who told Kevin that all of the money the store earned on Christmas Eve would be donated to a children’s hospital.
彼は店のオーナーであるダンカン氏に会い、クリスマスイブに店が稼いだお金をすべて子どもの病院に寄付することをケビンに告げました。
Kevin gave him his whole allowance.

He thought the kids in the hospital needed it more than he did.

Kevin ran away as fast as he could.

He ran all the way across Central Park.

He ran so fast that he tripped, and his foot get caught between two rocks.

A woman approached. She was covered in birds.

Kevin was scared at first, but then she pulled his foot free of the rocks.

The bird lady told Kevin that she lived in the park and that the pigeons were her only friends.

But as Kevin snuck away, the burglar spotted him.
しかし、ケビンがこっそり逃げ出すと、空き巣に見つかってしまった。
They chased after him and dragged him back to Central Park.
二人は彼を追いかけ、セントラルパークに引きずり戻しました。
Suddenly, the bird lady appeared and threw birdseed all over Harry and Marv, who were covered in goo.
突然、鳥女が現れ、ベトベトになったハリーとマーヴに鳥の種を投げつけました。

The pigeon swarmed Harry and Marv and pecked at them until the police arrived.

It was almost midnight, which meant that it was almost Christmas.

Kevin went to look at the biggest Christmas tree in New York city.

He missed his family. It turned out that going on vacation alone wasn’t much fun after all.

Kevin turned around.. and there was his mom!

She knew Kevin better than anyone, so she remembered how much he loved Christmas trees.

Kevin’s whole family was waiting back at the hotel.

On Christmas morning a giant pile of presents sat under the tree. They were all from Mr. Duncan, who left a note thanking Kevin for saving his toy store.

But as his brothers and sisters opened their gifts, Kevin quietly slipped away.
