英語絵本「Dog Breath!!」の読み聞かせ動画、今日は、息がとっても臭い犬のおはなしです。その事以外はまったくいいワンちゃん（ハリイ・トシス）なのですが、散歩に連れて行っても、おばあちゃんに抱きかかえられても、みんなにその匂いは耐えられないものでした。
少し長めの英語絵本ですが、簡単な英語で書かれていて読み進めるうちにどんどんストーリーに入り込んでいけるとっても楽しいお話でした。
英語学習中のお子さんだけでなく大人の方も楽しめる英語絵本です。
There once was a dog named Halliy, who lived with the Tosis family.
かつて、トーシス家に住んでいたハリーという犬がいました。
Haliy Tosis was a very good dog, but she had one big problem.
ハリイ・トシスはとても良い犬でしたが、彼女には一つ大きな問題がありました。
Haliy Tosis had horrible breath.
ハリイ・トシスはひどい息をしていた。
Whenever Haliy Tosis opened her mouth.
ハリイ・トシスが口を開いたときはいつでも。
horrible things happened.
恐ろしいことが起こりました。
When the children took Haliy Tosis for a walk, everyone else walked
子供たちがハリー・トシスを散歩に連れて行ったとき、他のみんなは、
on the other side of the street.
通りの反対側に歩いた。
Even skunks avoided Haliy Tosis.
スカンクでさえ口臭を避けます。
But the real trouble started one day when Grandma Tosis stopped by for a cup of tea…
しかし、本当のトラブルは、ある日、グランマトシスがお茶を飲みに立ち寄ったときに始まりました…
and Hallie jumped up to say “Hello.”
ハリーはジャンプして「こんにちは」と言いました。
Mr. and Mrs. Tosis were not amused.
トシス夫妻は面白がっていなかった。
“Something has to be done about that smelly dog,” they said.
「その臭い犬についてどうかしなければならない」と彼らは言った。
The next day, Mr. and Mrs. tosis decided to find a new home for Halliey.
翌日、トシス夫妻はハリーの新しい家を見つけることにしました。
The children knew that the only way they could save their dog was to get rid of her bad breath.
子供たちは、犬を救う唯一の方法は口臭を取り除くことだと知っていました。
So they took Haliy Tosis to the top of a mountain that had a breathtaking view.
それで彼らはハリイ・トシスを息をのむような景色のある山の頂上に連れて行きました。
They hoped that the breathtaking view would take Halley’s breath away…
彼らは、息をのむような眺めがハレーの息をのむことになると期待していました…
…but it didn’t.
…しかし、そうではありませんでした。
Next, the children took Haliy Tosis to a very exciting movie.
次に、子供たちはハリー・トシスを非常に刺激的な映画に連れて行きました。
They hoped that all the excitement would leave Hally breathless…
彼らはすべての興奮がハリーに息をのむままにすることを望んだ…
but it didn’t.
…しかし、そうではありませんでした。
Finally, the children took Haliy Tosis took carnival.
最後に、子供たちはハリィ・トシスを連れて、カーニバルへ行きました。
They hoped that Hally would lose her breath on the speedy roller coaster…
彼らは、ハリーがスピーディーなジェットコースターで息を切らしてくれることを望んでいた…
…but that idea stunk, too..
…しかし、その考えも悪臭を放ちます。
The plans to change Hally’s bad breath had failed.
ハリーの口臭を変える計画は失敗していた。
Now, only a miracle could save Haliy Tosis.
今、奇跡だけがハリ・トシスを救うことができました。
Sadly, the three friends said good night, unaware that a miracle was just on the horizon.
悲しいことに、3人の友人は奇跡が間近に迫っていることに気づかずに、おやすみを言った。
Later that night, when everyone was sound asleep, two sneaky burglars crept into the Tosis house.
その夜遅く、みんながぐっすり眠っていたとき、2人の卑劣な強盗がトシスの家に忍び込んだ。
The two burglars were tiptoeing through the dark quiet rooms then suddenly they came upon Haliy Tosis.
2人の強盗が暗い静かな部屋をつま先で歩き、突然彼らはハリ・トシスに出くわしました。
“Yikes,” whispered one burglar. “It’s a big, mean, scary dog!”
「いいね」と一人の泥棒がささやいた。 「それは、大きくて意地悪な恐ろしい犬です！」
“Aw, don’t be silly,” whispered the other burglar.
「ああ、愚かなことはしないで」と他の強盗はささやいた。
“That’s only a cute, little, fuzzy puppy!”
「それは、かわいくて小さい、ファジーな子犬だけです！」
The two burglars giggled at the sight of such a friendly little dog.
二人の強盗はそのような友好的な小さな犬を見て笑いました。
“That dog couldn’t hurt a fly.” whispered one burglar.
「あの犬はハエを傷つけることができなかった」 １人の強盗はささやいた。
“Come here, Poochie Poochie!” whispered the other.
「ここにおいで、プーチープーチー！」 他がささやいた。
So Haliy Tosis came over and gave the burglars a nice big kiss.
それでハリイ・トシスがやって来て、強盗に素敵な大きなキスをしました。
The next morning, the Tosis family awoke to find two burglars passed out cold on their living room floor.
翌朝、トシス一家は目覚め、居間の床に2人の強盗が冷たくなっていたのを発見した。
It was a miracle!
奇跡でした！
The Tosis family got a big reward for turning in the crooks, and soon Haliy Tosis was the most famous crime-fighting dog in the country.
トシス家は詐欺師を連れて行ったことに対して大きな報酬を得ました、そしてすぐにハリイ・トシスは国で最も有名な犯罪と戦う犬でした。
in the end, Mr. and Mrs. Tosis changed their minds about finding a new home for Hally.
結局、トシス夫妻はハリーのための新しい家を見つけることについて考えを変えました。
They decided to keep their wonderful watchdog after all.
彼らは結局彼らの素晴らしい番犬を守ることに決めた。
Because life without Haliy Tosis just wouldn’t make any sense!
なぜならハリイ・トシスのない人生はまったく意味がないからです！
