英語絵本リトルクリッター・シリーズから「The Lost Dinosaur Bone」の読み聞かせです。
大好きな恐竜展示のある自然史博物館へ遠足に行くことになったリトルクリッター達。でも、残念なことに恐竜展示は閉鎖されていました。骨の一部が行方不明になってしまっていたのです。残念なリトルクリッターは他の展示物よりも恐竜の骨が気になって仕方ないようです。
シンプルで全体的に分かりやすい英語で書かれた内容ですが、接続語などで少し長めの1文になっています。小学生から中学生くらいの英語初中級者の方が、少し長めの文から意味を読み取る練習をするのにちょうど良い絵本かなと思います。
前もってチェックしておくと読み進めやすい単語をいくつか拾い出してみました。

Our class went on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History I couldn’t wait to see the dinosaurs. When I grow up, I’m going to be a dinosaur hunter.
私たちのクラスは自然史博物館へ遠足に行きました。私は恐竜を見るのを待つことができませんでした。 私は恐竜の猟師になるでしょう。
But when we got to the museum, the dinosaur exhibit was closed.
しかし、博物館に着いたとき、恐竜展は閉鎖されていました。
So, we had to see the butterflies instead the butterflies were
fun, but I really wish we can see the dinosaurs.

Next, we went to the Rain forest. There were lots of trees with monkeys in them.

“Oooh! Oooh!” I said to the monkeys.

A guard came running over to see the monkeys too, so I asked him about the dinosaurs.

I found out that the exhibit was closed because a Triceratops bone was missing!

In the Hall of gems and minerals it was very dark, so we had to wear minor hats with lights on them.
宝石と鉱物のホールではとても暗かったので、ライトが付いているちょっとした帽子を着用しなければなりませんでした。
Tiger went looking for diamonds, but I was busy looking for the missing dinosaur bone. No luck!
タイガー君はダイヤモンドを探しに行ったが、私は恐竜の骨を探すのに忙しかった。 ついてない！
After that, we went to the planetarium, where the ceiling turns into a sky filled with stars.
その後、私たちはプラネタリウムに行きました。そこでは天井が星で満たされた空に変わります。
We found out that the planet Mars is covered with dust and that the planet Saturn has rings around it.
私たちは、惑星の火星がほこりで覆われていること、そして惑星の土星が周りにリングを持っていることを見ました。
I kept my eye out for the dinosaur bone, but I didn’t see it.
私は恐竜の骨に注意しました、しかし、私はそれを見ませんでした。
On our way to see a meteorite, I asked Miss Kitty if I could get a drink of water.

When I found the fountain, I also found something else – the dinosaur exhibit! It had a big sign saying exhibit closed.

I went closer a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It was heading right for me!

I ran away as fast as I could…

.. and found myself face to face with a velociraptor.

It had its mouth open wide so I could see all its sharp, pointy teeth.

The guard told me the exhibit was closed because of the missing dinosaur bone.

“I know,” I said. “I’ve been looking for it everywhere.”

On my way out, I took a wrong turn. That’s when I saw something long and white sticking out from under the Ankylosaurus skeleton.

It was the missing dinosaur bone!

I ran back to tell the guard. He didn’t believe me at first..

.. but when I showed the bone to him, he gave me a big smile.

Then I told Miss Kitty and the guard took our whole class to a special place where the scientists who studied dinosaur bones work.

“Thank you for solving the mystery of the missing Triceratops bone.” the scientist told me.

The scientists took us on a tour of the dinosaur exhibit.
科学者たちは恐竜展示のツアーに私たちを連れて行きました。
They showed us a Stegosaurus skeleton they had found buried in a mountain.
彼らは私たちに山に埋め込まれたたステゴサウルス骨格を示しました。
“I’m going to be a dinosaur hunter when I grow up!” I said.
「私が成長すると、恐竜のハンターになるだろう！」 私は言った。
“You already are.” answered the scientists.

You know what I’m going to do tomorrow?
