ハロウィンにぴったりな英語絵本「Stumpkin」の読み聞かせ動画のご紹介と日本語訳です。
stumpkinとは切り株とか茎のないといった意味ですが、ハロウィンに使うジャック・オー・ランタン用のかぼちゃには茎付きのものが選ばれることが多く、茎のないかぼちゃをstumpkinと呼ぶそうです。
ハロウィン用のかぼちゃ屋さんにたくさん並んでいるかぼちゃたち。次々とお客さんが来るたびに選ばれたかぼちゃたちは窓辺に飾られていきます。

It waa few days before Halloween.
ハロウィンの数日前でした。
Outside a little shop in a big city a shopkeeper placed some pumpkins on the shelves.
大都会の小さな店の外に、店主が何個かのカボチャを棚に並べていました。
A girl came and looked at the pumpkins.
女の子が来て、カボチャを見ました。
When she was done, she picked one up and carried it away.
そして、その1つを手に取り、持ち帰った。
The other pumpkins were worried after their friend.
他のかぼちゃたちは、友達のその後を心配していました。
But later they spotted him across the street and way up high.
しかし、その後、彼らは通りの向こう側、ずっと高いところにいる彼を見つけた。
He was a Jack-o-Lantern!

Beneath his lovely stem he now had two triangle eyes , a nose, and a giant toothy smile.

Stumpkins wouldn’t be getting a window.

And he wouldn’t be getting a new home.
そして、彼は新しい家を手に入れることはありませんでした。
He already had a home.

And that made Stumpkin very, very happy.
