子どもたちは雪遊びが大好きですね。雪だるまをつくったり雪合戦を楽しんだり。でも、一人ぼっちじゃちょっと楽しくないかも・・。冬眠から覚めたリトルベアもそんな気持ちでした。
今回ご紹介するのはイラストがとってもやさしいタッチの英語絵本、『Snow Friends 』の読み聞かせ動画。
遊び相手の居ないリトルベアが雪だるまを作ろうとしていると、カワウソやうさぎがひょっこり顔を出して仲間に加わります。みんなで力を合わせて一緒に遊んで楽しい一日を過ごします。
長い文章も所々ありますが全体的にシンプルな英語で書かれているので理解しやすい絵本でした。読み聞かせの発音もきれいなので、シャドーイングのように声に出して真似して発音してみるのも良い練習になりそうです。
Snow Friends
Little bear walk early from his deep winter sleep to find that the world was covered with a thick white blanket.
リトルベアは深い冬の眠りから早く歩いて、世界が厚い白い毛布で覆われていることを知りました。
“Oooh!” he cried, “snow!” and he raced out to play.
「おぉ！」彼は「雪！」と叫んだ。彼はプレーするために競争した。
Little bear rolled and skidded down the hill.
リトルベアは転がって丘を滑り降りた。
He shook the branches to make tiny white snow storms.
彼は小さな白い雪の嵐を作るために枝を揺らした。
Then he looked around for someone to play with, but he couldn’t see anyone… anywhere.
それから彼は一緒に遊ぶ人を見回しましたが、誰もどこにも見ることができませんでした。
Little bear was all alone.
リトルベアは一人ぼっちだった。
Suddenly he had an idea. “I could build a snowman,” he thought, “and then I would have someone to play with.”
突然彼は考えが浮かんだ。 「私は雪だるまを作ることができた」と彼は思った。
そうしたら、私は一緒に遊ぶ人がいます。
So little bear rolled a big shiny snowman body!
それでリトルベアは大きなピカピカの雪だるまの身体を巻いた！
Hello cried Otter, racing up. “What are you doing?”
“I’m making the best snowman ever!”replied Little Bear.
こんにちは、飛び上がってカワウソは叫んだ。「何してるの？」
「私は今まで最高の雪だるまを作っています！」とリトルベアは答えました。
“Wow!” said Otter. “I’ll help you!”
「ワオ！」カワウソは言った。「手伝うよ！」
Little bear and Otter pushed and puffed as the snowball got bigger and bigger.
子グマとカワウソは、より大きく大きくなるように息を切らして押した。
Suddenly a rabbit popped up from his burrow.
“What’s that?” he said curiously.
突然彼の巣からウサギが飛び出した。
「あれは何でしょう？」彼は不思議そうに言った。
“We’re building the best snowman ever!”
said Otter.
“Do you want to help?”
「これまで最高の雪だるまを作っています！
カワウソは言った。
「手伝いたいですか？」
So rabbit help to make the snowman’s head, and gave him a big happy smile.
そしてウサギは雪だるまの頭を作るのを助け、彼に大きな幸せな笑顔を与えました。
They use sticks from the river for arms and one of Rabbit’s carrots for a nose. At last the best snowman ever was finished!
彼らは腕のために川から棒と、鼻のためにウサギのニンジン一つを使う。ついに最高の雪だるまが完成しました！
For the rest of the day they played with the snowmen in the snow.
その日の残りの時間、彼らは雪の中で雪だるまと遊んだ。
They played hide-and-seek and chase, and had huge snowball fights that left them giggling and gasping for breath.
彼らはかくれんぼをしたり、笑いながら息を呑むようにして追いかけっこや大きな雪合戦をして遊んだ。
As the sun set, the three friends talked about what games they could play the next day.
太陽が沈むと、3人の仲間は翌日どのゲームをプレイできるか話し合った。
“Let’s go exploring,” said Rabbit.
「探検に行きましょう」とウサギは言った。
“But we can’t leave Snowmen all on his own,”
said Little Bear.
「しかし、私たちは雪だるまをまったく一人のままにすることはできない」
リトルベアは言った。
“Let’s build him a friend, then!” said Otter.
「それなら、彼に友人を造ってやりましょう！」と、カワウソは言いました。
Once again they rolled and padded and shaped, until they made a perfect little snowman.
もう一度、彼らは転がして詰め込み、形を整えて、完璧な小さな雪だるまを作りました。
Tired and happy they watched as the snowman and his friend turned to silver in the moonlight.
彼らは雪だるまと彼の友人が月明かりの中で銀色になったのを見て、疲れて幸せになりました。
“he’s the bestest snowman in the world,” said Little Bear.
「彼は世界で一番いい雪だるまだ」とリトル・ベアは語った。
“And he’ll never be lonely now he has a friend.”
said Otter.
「今、彼は友人がいて、孤独になることはありません」
“Yes,” Rabbit smiled. “just like us!”
「はい」うさぎは微笑んだ。 「私たちのように！」
