パパのお仕事が急に忙しくなり、帰りが遅くなってしまうこと、ありますよね。私たちも、つい仕事の連絡をスマートフォンで確認しながら寝かしつけをしてしまい、子どもに「ちゃんと聞いてる？」と怒られてしまう夜があります。そんな「パパとの寝る前の時間」を全力で取り戻そうとする女の子の姿を描いたのが、この『Help Wanted Must Love Books』です。

翌朝一番に、彼女は求人の張り紙をしました……
“Help Wanted: bedtime Storyteller, must love books, apply within, interviews begin promptly at 6:30 pm.”
「求人：寝る前の読み聞かせ係、本が好きなこと、直接応募のこと、面接は午後6時30分きっかりに開始」
…and interviews began shortly before bedtime.
……そして、寝る時間直前から面接が始まりました。
The fierce competition scared off the first three applicants.
激しい競争に、最初の3人の応募者は怖気づいてしまいました。
The next applicant brought along her seven bodyguards, which was fine until Shaylee offered them snacks.
次の応募者は7人のボディーガードを連れてきましたが、シェイリーがおやつを出すまでは順調でした。
“Don’t eat that, it’s the wicked Queen in disguise!”
「それを食べちゃだめだ、あれは変装した邪悪な女王だよ！」
Shailey refused to interview any other applicants that night.
シェイリーはその夜、他の応募者の面接をすることを拒否しました。
Before going to bed, she added a line to her job notice.

The next night, the first applicant seemed delightful.

until he ran away with the book.
といいつつ、彼は本を持って逃げ出してしまいました。
“I hear the yawn of the tired one.”

Shailey refused to come out from under the bed to interview applicant number two.
シェイリーはベッドの下から出て、2人目の応募者を面接するのを拒否しました。
In the morning, Shailey changed her sign again.
翌朝、シェイリーは看板をまた書き換えました。

At the next interview, Shailey’s ears pricked right up.
次の面接で、シェイリーは耳をそばだてました。
