英語絵本「Be Brave, Little Penguin」の読み聞かせです。Be Braveとは勇気を出すこと。
一見みんなと同じような容姿のリトルペンギンですが、彼は水が大の苦手。他の仲間と同じようにすべり台を滑ったり氷の上を滑ったりしても、ザブンと水の中に入ることだけは怖くてためらっていました。
Little Penguin looks just like all the other penguins.
リトルペンギンは他のすべてのペンギンと同じように見えます。
He has a little orange beak. He has two tiny wings.
彼は少しオレンジ色のくちばしを持っています。 彼は二つの小さな翼を持っています。
He has a soft white tummy.
彼は柔らかい白いおなかを持っています。
But Little Penguin is not like all the other penguins.
しかし、リトルペンギンは他のすべてのペンギンと同じではありません。
He doesn’t like diving under the blue waves.
彼は青い波の下でダイビングをするのが好きではありません。
He doesn’t like splashing in the sparkling ocean.
彼は、きらめく海にザブンと落ちるのが好きでありません。
Little Penguin is scared of the water.
リトルペンギンは水が怖いのです。
Everyone loves playing in the snow.
誰もが雪の中で遊ぶのが大好きです。
Little Penguin likes the ice helter-skelter best.
リトルペンギンはアイスヘルター – スケルターが一番好きです。
He slides around…
彼はクルクル滑る…
..and around..
そしてくるくる
..and around!
そしてくるくるまわる！
“This is so much fun!” giggles Little Penguin.
「これはとても楽しいね！」 リトルペンギン
The other penguins dive into the water.
他のペンギンは水に飛び込む。
“Come with us, Little Penguin” they call.
「私たちと一緒に来て、リトルペンギン」と彼らは呼ぶ。
But Little Penguin is too scared.
しかし、リトルペンギンはあまりにも怖いです。
Everyone loves sliding on the ice.
誰もが氷の上を滑るのが大好きです。
They whizz..
彼らはブーンと飛びます..
.. and spin…
..、そして、回転…
.. and skid.
..、そして、横すべり。
Little Penguin goes fastest of all.
リトルペンギンは何よりも早く進みます。
But then.. “Help!”
でも、その後.. “助けて！”
He wibbles and wobbles on the very edge.
彼はぎくしゃくしていて、端にぶら下がっています。
“I nearly fell in!” he gasps.
「私は落ちそうだ！」 彼は喘ぎます。
And his little wings tremble.
そして彼の小さな翼は震えます。
“Poor Little Penguin,” says Little Seal Cub.
「かわいそうなペンギン」と子アザラシのカブは言います。
“Don’t worry, I’ll play with you.” Little Penguin and Little Seal Cub race and chase each other.
「心配しないで、一緒に遊ぼう」リトルペンギンと子アザラシのカブはお互いに競い合います。
They go around the icy glaciers.
彼らは氷の氷河を回っています。
And through the powdery snow.
そして粉雪を通り抜けて。
Then… whoops! Little Penguins skids on the ice.
それから…おっと！ 小さなペンギンは氷の上を滑る。
“Help!” cries Little Penguin. swoosh!
「助けて！」リトルペンギンは叫ぶ。 すごい！
He slides down the snow bank!
彼は雪の土手を滑り降りる！
Splash! Sploosh!
パシャーン、パシャーン！
Little Penguin is in the water!
リトルペンギンは水に飛び込んだ！
At first, he’s scared.
最初は、彼は怖わかった。
But then he kicks his legs, he flaps his little wings..
しかしそれから彼は足を蹴る、彼は小さな翼を羽ばたかせる..
..and whoosh! suddenly he’s swimming!
..そして、なんと！ 突然彼は泳いでいる！
“This isn’t scary!” says Little Penguin “This
is fun”
「これは怖くない！」 リトルペンギンは言った「これは楽しいです。」
Little Penguin plops back onto the ice.
小さなペンギンが氷の上に飛び出します。
“That was great!” he laughs.
「すごく良かった！」 彼は笑う。
“Do you want to do it again?” asks Little Seal Cub.
「もう一度やりたいですか？」 リトルシールカブはたずねた。
“Yes please!” say Little Penguin.
「はい、お願いします！”」リトルペンギンは言う。
Then, he sees Little Polar Bear standing on the ice.
それから、彼はリトルポーラベアが氷の上に立っているのを見ます。
“Come and play with us,” calls Little Penguin.
「さあ、一緒に遊びましょう」とリトルペンギンは言う。
“I’m not sure,” whispers Little Polar Bear.
「よく分からない」とリトルポーラベアがささやく。
“The water is bit scary.”
「水は少し怖い」
Little Penguin gives a great, big smile.
リトルペンギンは素晴らしい、大きな笑顔を与えます。
“I know exactly how you feel.” he says.
「私はあなたの気持ちを正確に知っています」 彼は言います。
“I used to be scared, too.”
「私も怖かった」
Weeee!
Little Penguin and Little Polar Bear slide and splash into the water.
リトルペンギンとリトルホッキョクグマが滑って水にはねます。
Little Penguin and his friends had lots of fun playing in the sea.
リトルペンギンと彼の友達は海でたくさん遊びました。
“I’ll never be scared of the water again.”
「二度と水が怖くない」
said Little Penguin. And he never was.
リトルペンギンは言った。 そして彼は決して（怖く）なかった。
