アメリカのミシシッピ川のほとりの小さな町を舞台にした子供向け小説『トム・ソーヤーの冒険』、著者はマーク・トウェインです。図書館などでも見かけることのある、日本でも有名な少年少女向け小説です。以前、TVでもアニメ放映されていました。
主人公トマス・ソーヤー少年はいたずらざかりの10歳くらい。ちょうどうちの子供と同じくらいの年頃です。息子も近ごろいろんな小説にハマっているようなので、このおなじみの小説『トム・ソーヤーの冒険』を勧めてみようかと思います。
YouTubeで公開されているBedtime Story for Kidsに「The Adventure of Tom Sawyer」という英タイトルで小説の中でも有名なエピソードが公開されていました。
10分程度の英語版アニメですが子供向けのリスニングにちょうどよさそうです。ストーリー中の大まかな英文は下に訳してみました。あらかじめチェックしておくと物語に入りやすいでしょう。
The Adventure of Tom Sawyer
伯母に叱られた罰として塀のペンキ塗りをさせられるトム。悪知恵を働かせてまんまと友達にペンキ塗りの仕事を押しつけます。ある日のこと、友達たちとの遊びが村を巻き込むとんでもないことになってしまいます。
