英語絵本「Baby Bear」の読み聞かせです。ママの腕枕の中で心地よくしていた赤ちゃんグマでしたがどうしても眠れなくなってしまいます。ついにはママの腕枕を振りほどき、外の世界を冒険してみたくなったベビーベアのお話しです。
洞窟の外に出ると外は真っ白。地面に付けられていた大きな足跡をたどりおそるおそる冒険の旅へ向かいます。
Inside his cozy den.
彼の居心地の良い洞窟の中。

ぴったりと暖かいママクマの腕の中で赤ちゃんクマ。
Outside, the big, wide world was cold and white.
外では、大きくて広い世界は寒くて真っ白でした。
No matter how hard he tried, Baby Bear could not sleep.
どんなに懸命に努力しても、ベイビーベアーは眠れませんでした。
He was curious.
彼は興味津々だった。
Slipping out from Mommy Bear’s arms,
ママベアの腕から抜け出し、
Baby Bear peeped out at the big, wide world.
ベイビーベアは広くて広い世界をのぞいてみました。
It looked a little frightening, but he wanted to explore.
それは少し恐ろしいように見えました、しかし、彼は探検したかったです。
Stepping outside, Baby Bear saw that there were footprints.

A little scared, he decided to follow them to see where they led.

The big footprint went on and on,

winding down a path and through deep, dark woods.

Baby Bear looked up at the sky.

It was big and dark and beautiful.

Then he saw the moon, and he thought that it looked like a big hole in the dark night sky.

Suddenly, Baby Bear began to feel very small and very alone.

Soon, Baby Bear came to the ocean.

It was so big and so wide that just looking at it made Baby Bear feel even smaller.

Baby Bear sat down and began to wish that he hadn’t left Mummy Bear’s snuggly, warm arms.

Suddenly, there was a splash, then there was a sniffle, and then a small creature flopped onto the rock beside Baby Bear.

“Who are you?”

asked the small creature, looking curiously at Baby Bear.

“I’m Baby Bear,” said Baby Bear.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Sammy Seal.” said Sammy Seal.

“Are you scared of the big, wide world too?”
「あなたも、大きい、広い世界も恐れますか？」
asked Baby Bear, realising that Sammy Seal must find it even scarier than he did because he was so small.
ベイビーベアは、サミーシールがとても小さかったので彼よりさらにもっとそう感じたことに気づいて尋ねました。
“Not really.” said Sammy Seal.
「あんまり。」サミーシールは言った。
“In the ocean there are creatures that are even smaller than me and they are not scared.
「海には私よりもさらに小さい生き物がいます。そしてそれらは怖いものではありません。
The big, wide world has lots of wonderful things to explore, but you just have to be brave.”
広くて広大な世界には、探索するための素晴らしいことがたくさんありますが、勇敢でなければなりません。」
“I’d like to be brave!”

said Baby Bear, hopefully.
ベビーベアは期待をもって言った。
“Well, why don’t you come on a big adventure with me?” Sammy Seal suggested.

“I know lots of exciting things that we can do.”

“OK!” agreed Baby Bear. feeling brave all of a sudden.

Baby Bear began to feel very brave indeed sitting on top of the big iceberg with his new friends, Sammy Seal.
ベイビーベアは新しい友達のサミーシールと一緒に大きな氷山の上に座って実に勇敢であると感じ始めました。
Soon, the big Sun began to rise over the big, blue ocean.
すぐに、大きな太陽が大きな青い海の上に昇り始めました。
The world was filled with light and seemed like a warm and welcoming place once more.
世界は光で満たされ、暖かくくつろぎの場所のようでした。
But it was time to go home.
しかし、家に帰る時が来ました。
So Baby Bear and Sammy Seal swam back to the shore.
だからベイビーベアとサミーシールは岸に泳いで戻った。
Baby Bear thanked Sammy Seal for showing him that the big, wide world wasn’t as scary as he had first thought.

They agreed to meet up soon for another big adventure.

Baby Bear followed the big footprints all the way home.

He crept into Mummy Bear’s arms as quietly as he could and feell soundly asleep.
