英語絵本「The Snowy Day」子供はみんな雪が大好き

英語絵本「The Snowy Day」の読み聞かせです。1963年にコルデコット賞を受賞したこの作品はすこし前の絵本ですが、色鮮やかなタッチに古めかしさはまったくありません。黒人の男の子が主人公となった初めてのフルカラーの絵本としても話題になった絵本だそうです。

どんな子供でも雪が降った日は、きっと同じことを経験するでしょう。ザクザクと降り積もった雪に足跡を付けてみたり、線を引いたり、木の上の雪を落としてみたり、雪団子を作ったり。そんな雪の一日を楽しむ子供をゆったりしたストーリーで描いている作品でした。

One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window.
ある冬の朝、ピーターは目を覚まして窓の外を見ました。

Snow had fallen during the night it covered everything as far as he could see.
夜の間中雪が降っていて、見渡す限り一面の雪景色でした。

 

 

After breakfast he put on his snowsuit and ran outside.
朝食の後、彼はスノースーツを着て外に駆け出しました。

The snow was piled up very high along the street to make a path for walking.
雪は、道を歩くための経路に沿ってとても高く積み上げられていました。

 

 

Crunch, crunch, crunch his feet sank into the snow.

He walked with his toes pointing out, like this:

Then he dragged his feet slowly to make tracks.
